  • 2. give non-smokers a feeling of superiority, punish smokers for their sin, make nosy Parkers feel like politicians are doing something useful and “for the common good”.

    3. raise revenue/justify larger force and bigger budget/because they have nothing better to do/because someone is genuinely driving in a reckless manner and will hurt other people. 4. no one. 6. a pointless distraction/see #2. 7. environmentalists have completely fucked up and repugnant priorities that don’t acknowledge that cheap, reliable energy is the single most important factor for improving the quality of HUMAN life.

  • #5 develop weapons, destabilize the region, provide reality tv programing for the elite…

  • 1.  um… sand reserves?

    2.  wrongfully chastise folks for a choice they made themselves about themselves/helps folks feel good about themselves when really doing nothing other than potentially putting folks out of work and sucking yet even more money out of the economy

    3. feel superior;  attempt to help keep the roads safe.  The problem is, they never get the folks who drive like complete maniacs or morons.  They get the folks who are speeding, but still driving safely.  If I run a stop sign by mistake, and no accident happens, what does that ticket actually do?  I understand the point of ticketing folks who blatantly speed, run stop lights, don’t use signals etc, because it is only a matter of time, and maybe the fear of a ticket will get them to act right.  Tickets do not generate revenue.  Factor in the cost of the cruiser, the cop’s salary, the admin costs of processing the ticket, and the judge’s salary should someone decide to fight it in court.  Even if they lose and still pay a $100-$200 fine, that amount has been spent already just on the ticket itself.

    4.  No one.  It has not and will not lower the actual cost of healthcare.  All it does is shift the burden of payment around.  If anything, because of the new requirements, it will end up raising healthcare costs.

    5.  Waste time.  While I do think Iraq needed to be dealt with, I do not believe it was in our best interest at the time.  Imagine if all the resources that were in Iraq were put into Afghanistan, we’d be done there by now.  Of course, if we actually let our troops fight a war when we send them off to war, they’d be done by now as well.

    6.  A colossal failure.

    7.  Name it.  Environmentalists with completely out of whack priorities.  The fact that gas, no matter where in the world, is traded on the American dollar.  If the dollar loses value, the price of oil goes up to keep pace with other currencies.  Which means it’s a double-hit for us.  Also the fact that we allow speculators and OPEC so much control over it.  OPEC can simply say they’ll reduce production, and bang, the price goes up.  Drill our own damn oil.  Allow the oil companies to set their own prices and compete for our business through competetive quality and pricing.

  • 1. Our armed forces are in Libya to protect our……….. Oil
    2. “Sin tax” on cigarettes helps………………………….. Obama get rich
    3. Your local police ticket you to…………………………. Pay their rent
    4. “Obama care” makes healthcare affordable for…….. Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden
    5. The purpose of the Iraq war was to…………………… Get the U.N. to help us create a New World Order
    6. The war on drugs is……………………………………… A sideshow to take away your second amendment rights.
    7. Gas is expensive because…………………………….. Haliburton blew up the oil rig in the Gulf and Obama cut idk how many drilling Permits.

    How did I do?

  • 1. Our armed forces are in Libya to protect our commitment to promote democracy and oppose tyranny.

    2. “Sin tax” on cigarettes helps pay for the billions of dollars in medical costs smoking them creates.

    3. Your local police ticket you to fund law enforcement and create a disincentive toward further infractions of the law.

    4. “Obama care” makes healthcare affordable for pretty much everybody (at least in principle, time will tell and I’m sure it will have to be adjusted down the line)

    5. The purpose of the Iraq war was to make money for george bush’s friends while fulfilling his delusions of grandeur.

    6. The war on drugs is just as big a failure as prohibition of alcohol, for the exact same reasons.

    7. Gas is expensive because oil companies collectively gouge their customers because they can, and we have to import much of our oil from unstable regions and dictatorships.

  • @derekwilson24 - How exactly is obama getting rich off of the healthcare reform bill?

  • @agnophilo - I didn’t say he was, I said he was getting rich off the cigarette “Sin Tax”

  • 1. US troops are in Libya to protect our representatives, embassies, and citizens present in the country.

    2. “Sin tax” on cigarettes helps those who voluntarily cause their own medical issues, and create other medical issues to share the lion’s burden of the costs. It’s also worth noting that most insurance companies now have a surcharge/extra premium for those using tobacco products frequently, so it’s not just the government.

    3. Your local police ticket you to raise funds for effective local law enforcement, keep the peace, and to ensure adequate funding in a time of near-recession.

    4. “Obamacare” helps make healthcare affordable for the most needy, and for the majority of all Americans. While it may not effectively reduce the cost of healthcare, it will certainly curtail the exponential costs that existed prior to the enactment of the ACA.

    5. The purpose of the Iraq war was to help the Bush family complete the job started in 1990-91, gain control over some Middle Eastern oil supplies, attempt a misguided project of bringing democracy to the Middle East, and protect US national security interests.

    6. The “War on Drugs” is a waste of time, money, and resources. I believe in the legalization, and taxation, of marijuana, similar to the control and taxation on tobacco products and alcohol.

    7. Gas is expensive because there are too many embedded taxes and the oil companies set arbitrary limits on costs. Price-gouging, if you want to call it that. Also, it’s expensive because it’s a life necessity for the US with fewer alternatives. As GrimTruth pointed out, speculation as well. Oil speculation in the US is the single biggest reason gas is as “expensive” as it is right now.

Will you provide us with your answers? Nice post to attract answers; nicely done!

    3. Your local police ticket you to pay for their bloated bureaucracy.

    4. “Obama care” makes healthcare affordable for insurance companies, who will no doubt gorge themselves on this opportunistically just as they did with auto insurance.

    5. The purpose of the Iraq war was to fulfill some Freudian need of George Bush Jr. to *penetrate deep into* something his father could not.

    6. The war on drugs is great…for corporate prisons.

    7. Gas is expensive because America’s leaders think that it is better to spend billions of dollars blowing up brown people than on educating youth to be scientists and innovators who could develop gas alternatives or better engines.
