Drug testing welfare recipients is a stupid idea.
They want to drug test welfare recipient in a bunch of states now.
Follow the logic:
- The state will need more money to conduct the drug testing.
- The state will TAKE that money from you in the form of taxes
- They will then kick people off of welfare, saving themselves money. (hypothetically)
Not a single person wins. Welfare is not MORE expensive for us and MORE lucrative for the politicians and now, the companies and labs doing the drug testing. The guy who just got laid off will now end up with a criminal record if he smokes a joint and we will end up funding his career in the prison system.
They need to be figuring out how to get people off of welfare by reducing the tax burden on society so that society has more jobs available, not by making people homeless and starving them because they wanted a joint.
MORE GOVERNMENT NEVER EVER EVER WORKS.

As with most things, if it makes sense and it’s logical then usually the complete opposite happens.
What a dumb idea!!
I think they should try it out and see if they save enough money to justify it, if not, then I agree. But a lot of people get welfare who should not, so the question is: do you pay people to regulate it or just trust people are telling the truth. I am sad to say, in this day and age, a lot of people lie and take advantage. I know when I had food stamps for two months and had called to cancel when I got a new job the lady on the phone was suprised I called to cancel.. apparently, most people do not cancel but wait to be caught I guess. It is sad.
If doing so does not save money after a test period, the welfare recipients should be who’s paying for the drug tests.
I agree! I had not really given that issue much thought, but have heard people say they are for the idea.
